What an Ad Film Actually Costs in Tamil Nadu — and What Drives the Price
A straight breakdown of what you are paying for when you commission an ad film, and which decisions move the number most.

Why quotes for the same brief differ so much
Two production houses can quote three lakhs and eleven lakhs for what sounds like the same thirty-second film, and both can be honest quotes.
The difference is almost never profit margin. It is shoot days, crew size, cast, location and post. Once you know which of those your film actually needs, the quotes stop looking random.
The five things that set the price
- Shoot days. The single biggest lever. Every extra day carries crew, equipment, location and food. A tight script that shoots in one day costs a fraction of one that sprawls across three.
- Cast. Real people and staff cost nothing. Models cost more. A recognisable face changes the budget bracket entirely.
- Location. Your own premises is free. A rented house or studio is a day rate. A permitted public location adds coordination and risk.
- Equipment and crew. A two-person team with one camera is a different film from a full unit with lighting, sound, grip and an AD.
- Post. Edit and colour are standard. Motion graphics, VFX, original music and multiple language versions each add real time.
Honest ranges in Tamil Nadu
A single-day shoot with a small crew, your own location and a simple edit — roughly sixty thousand to one and a half lakhs.
A proper branded film with a scripted concept, a day or two of shooting, a modest cast and a finished grade — usually two to five lakhs.
A television commercial with a full unit, cast, multiple locations and broadcast-grade post — six lakhs and up, quickly more if a known face is involved.
Anything quoted at fifteen thousand is a phone-shot reel, and there is nothing wrong with that as long as everybody is honest about what it is.
Where AI has genuinely changed the maths
Not by replacing the shoot. By multiplying what the shoot produces.
One properly shot day can now be cut into thirty or forty variants across ratios, hooks and languages through an AI-assisted pipeline. The hero film still gets made properly. Everything downstream of it — the variants the ad account needs to keep testing — gets far cheaper.
For a brand running paid media continuously, this is the difference between one tired film and a year of fresh creative from the same production budget.
How to get a smaller quote without a worse film
- Shoot two or three films on the same day instead of commissioning them separately
- Use your own premises and your own people wherever the story allows
- Lock the script before the shoot — changes on set cost the whole day
- Approve at animatic stage, where changes cost nothing
- Skip the celebrity unless you can name what specifically it buys you
The question to ask any production house
“What would you cut first if my budget were thirty per cent lower, and what would that cost me?”
The answer tells you whether they are thinking about your outcome or about their invoice. A good director will have an immediate, specific answer — usually a shoot day, not the idea.
