Google Business Profile: The Free Tool Most Tamil Nadu Businesses Ignore
Local search brings in more walk-ins than most paid campaigns — and the setup costs nothing. Here is what actually moves the ranking.

Why the map pack matters more than your website
When someone searches “interior designer near me” or “best salon in Anna Nagar”, Google shows three business listings above every website result. Those three get the calls. If your listing is thin or unverified, you are invisible in the moment the customer is ready to act.
The setup that takes an hour
Claim the profile, pick the right primary category, set your service area, add the phone number that someone actually answers, and set real opening hours. Then add photos — at least ten, showing the premises, the work and the people. Listings with photos get materially more direction requests and calls than listings without.
Reviews are the ranking lever
Nothing moves local ranking like a steady flow of recent reviews. Steady beats sudden: five reviews a month for a year outperforms sixty in one week, which looks bought. Ask every satisfied customer on WhatsApp with a direct review link, and reply to every review — Google reads the replies too.
Posts, questions and products
Most competitors set up the profile and abandon it. Weekly posts, seeded and answered questions, and a filled-out products or services section keep the listing active. Activity is a signal, and in most Tamil Nadu categories the bar is low enough that consistency alone puts you ahead.
The mistake that costs rankings
Inconsistent name, address and phone number across your website, Justdial, Facebook and the listing itself. Google cross-checks. Pick one exact format and use it everywhere, down to the punctuation.
