Meta Changed Your Ads Without Asking — Four Things to Check This Week
Product browsing auto-enabled on 28 October. New commercial terms from 30 October making you liable for AI-generated content. AI landing pages that may break your tracking. What to do.

Why this one is time-sensitive
Most platform updates can wait. These cannot, because several of them switch themselves on by default and the dates are days away.
If you run Meta ads — yourself or through an agency — work through this list this week.
1. Product browsing turns itself on, 28 October 2026
Meta announced on 14 October that product browsing would be automatically enabled in existing ads from 28 October.
Meta reports an average 3% conversion increase across roughly 117,700 advertisers. That is Meta's own figure about Meta's own product, so weigh it accordingly — but 3% is a modest, believable claim rather than a marketing number.
For most e-commerce advertisers this is fine and probably helpful. For some it is not: if your ad is meant to drive a specific landing page, an enquiry form, or a WhatsApp conversation, an in-ad browsing experience can quietly intercept the journey you designed.
Action: decide deliberately. If you want it off, opt out before 28 October. Doing nothing is a choice and it is being made for you.
2. New commercial terms, 30 October 2026
Meta updated its commercial terms on 8 October, effective 30 October 2026. Two clauses matter:
- Meta may run delivery and creative tests without advance notice to you.
- Advertisers are legally responsible for AI-generated content in their ads.
Read the second one again. If Meta's AI rewrites your headline and the new version makes a claim you cannot support — a guaranteed result, a medical outcome, a price that is not real — that is your liability, not Meta's.
For regulated categories in India — healthcare, education, financial services, real estate — this is a genuine compliance exposure, not a theoretical one.
Action: if you are in a regulated sector, review every automatic creative enhancement in your account and turn off the ones that rewrite claims.
3. Advantage+ rewrites your images by default
Since 27 July 2026, Advantage+ Creative rewrites text inside uploaded images by default and generates up to eight headline variants.
Inside your images. The text you put there, changed.
If you have spent money on a brand — a typeface, a tone, a way of writing prices — this undoes some of it without telling you. And it connects straight to the liability clause above.
Action: open Ads Manager, look at the actual delivered creative, not the asset you uploaded. If what is running is not what you made, turn the enhancement off.
4. AI landing pages may break your tracking
Also announced on 14 October: Meta is testing AI-generated landing pages on under 5% of impressions.
The important part is buried: standard pixels and GA4 may not fire on these pages.
If some of your traffic lands on a page your analytics cannot see, your conversion numbers are wrong and your cost-per-lead looks worse than it is. You could cut a campaign that was working.
Under 5% is small. But if you are making budget decisions on thin data, 5% of distortion is enough to make you act on noise.
Action: compare Meta-reported conversions against your own system — your CRM, your WhatsApp enquiries, your actual bookings. If the gap has widened since mid-October, this is a candidate explanation.
What is genuinely good in all this
Not all of it is defensive.
Meta announced a new LLM-based ad ranking system on its Q2 earnings call in July 2026, reporting a 15.7% conversion lift in early trials on Facebook. Earnings-call figures carry more weight than blog claims because of who is listening.
Advantage+ is running at a $75 billion annual run rate. Whatever your view of automation, that is where the platform's engineering is going, and fighting it with manual campaigns is increasingly uphill.
Instagram live video ads went generally available in September, and the Ads Manager now has a natural-language assistant.
The honest position: the automation genuinely works, and it works best when someone is watching what it does to your message. Hand it the budget, not the brand.
The week's checklist
- Decide on product browsing before 28 October
- Review AI creative enhancements, especially if you are in a regulated category — before 30 October
- Look at delivered creative, not uploaded assets
- Reconcile Meta's conversion numbers against your own records
Twenty minutes of work. Materially different outcomes.
